Do you ever think about how actually amazing most Christmas songs are? Setting aside, just for a moment, the beautiful hymns that have been sung for literally hundreds of years (who can listen to Oh Holy Night without getting chills??), and looking at Christmas music as a cultural phenomena is a crazy thing. No matter what you celebrate, this time of year is for celebration.

I just love the lyrics of Christmas songs, though. Classic songs or new renditions, they just feel nostalgic. It makes you want to find the nearest Christmas tree you can; at least, that’s exactly what happened to me, lol. But seriously, Christmas music is a special kind of joy, bottled in song form. You can’t help but envision the picturesque scenes they describe, can’t help but string together every fond memory you have of the holiday season.Β

Frosted windowpanes, candles gleaming inside…treetops glisten and children listen to hear sleighbells in the snow…city sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in holiday style—in the air there’s a feeling of Christmas…here we are as in olden days, happy golden days, of yore…we dream by the fire, to face unafraid the plans that we’ve made, walking in a winter wonderland…

This one is perfect to close with—not only is is my favorite Christmas song, it is quite literally The Christmas Song. Plus, it perfectly encapsulates my feelings towards all of you dear readers, as you enter into this holiday season:

And so, I’m offering this simple phrase, to kids from one to ninety-two: although it’s been said many times, many ways, Merry Christmas, to you.Β
